First Aid at Work Vs Emergency First Aid at Work

There are two levels of first aid courses that are recommended by the Health and Safety Executive.
First Aid at Work (3 day) and Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day).

To decide which course is best suited for the first aiders in your workplace, you should carry out a first aid needs assessment. This will include considering things such as:
• What activities take place at your workplace
• Work patterns of your staff
• The number of people on site at any one time
• Workplace hazards and risks
• The history of accidents within your organisation

When carrying out your first aid needs assessment, have a look at the accidents that have been recorded in your workplace and what injuries could occur in your environment.

It is also worth speaking to the individuals on your team to ensure you are aware of any medical issues they have, that you may want your first aiders trained in e.g., severe allergies, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy.

Remember first aid training is not a tick box exercise. Ensure your first aiders are trained in the topics needed to fulfil their duties to the best of their abilities and keep your workplace safe.
