Training can be scary for some...

For some people training is a welcome break from the 'norm', but for others attending a training session can be daunting.

Does the thought of entering a room full of people you may or may not know seem scary to you?

Do you feel self-conscious that your level of knowledge may be judged during the course?
Hate answering questions in public?

We get it.

We understand that being in a group or talking in public may be out of your comfort zone.

So, what can you do to help reduce some of your anxiety or reservations about attending training?

Here are some tips…

1) Let us know.
Either drop us an email or let the trainer know on the day if there is anything you are worried about. We offer a safe space for disclosing individual needs.

2) Remember everyone is there to learn and learning never ends.
There are new developments in all sectors all the time, you are attending the training to ensure you are aware of the latest information and protocols. Not to be tested to see if you already know them.

3) You are not alone.
Our trainers work with a wide variety of people, whatever concerns you have, they have probably come across it before. They are very experienced at helping people feel comfortable and reassuring any concerns. They are not there to judge.

4) Be prepared.
Being prepared such as planning your route and arriving in plenty of time can help to avoid anxiety. You can avoid feeling stressed before you even arrive because of a traffic jam or being late, and you won’t have to walk into a class that is already started. Arriving early is also an opportunity to chat to the trainer about any concerns.

5) Do what makes you comfortable.
Whether it is bringing a favourite fidget toy with you or mentioning to the trainer that you need to have your phone handy if you are concerned about someone you care for. We allow flexibility to accommodate taking important phone calls or replying to urgent messages.

On our courses we try and make people feel included and comfortable by using inclusive discussions, acknowledging different points of view, and managing any form of intimidation or harassment. We encourage humour and fun in all of our sessions.

Would it help to hear what our courses are like from other learners themselves?
