10 Low energy activity ideas
What do you have planned for the people in your care this summer?
Entertainment does not need to be strenuous or expensive. Here are a few ideas to give you some inspiration to create inclusive, low energy activities everyone can enjoy.
1. Bird watching – Go out into the garden or watch from a window. Place a bird feeder outside and record all the different birds you see.
2. Tour places of interest online via there you tube channels – Museums / Zoos
3. Have story time using audio books – this can be a group activity gathering everyone into the lounge to listen together
4. Pub Quiz in the care home – Hold a quiz with the questions in large print on the TV screen so clearly visible.
5. Turn the home into a movie theatre – show a popular black and white movie, have chairs laid out like a theatre, with popcorn and a cuppa.
6. Sing along afternoon – play songs familiar to those in your care, you could even have the words up on screen to help with the sing along!
7. Guessing game - Place familiar, highly textured objects (e.g., pinecones, seashells, old coins) inside a soft bag or pillow case. Residents guess the items using only their hands.
8. Spa day – Turn the care home into a spa for the day. Using gentle head massagers, foot spa’s, cucumber on the eyes, relaxing music, face masks.
9. Sip and paint – painting with a cuppa, have canvases for each person and a simple painting for them to copy or let them use their imagination to create their own. Could even do a paint by numbers.
10. Picture timeline – have large pictures printed of historical events or fashion / cars from certain eras and help to put them in a timeline of when they happened in history.
