Course overview:

Course is suitable for any person working in an outdoor or remote activity, as well as those within high-risk occupations such as agricultural, forestry & sawmills, farming, game & gun clubs, security, construction, as well as event medics and those with first aid or first responder qualifications that require an additional skill to enhance their existing first aid knowledge.

Course learning outcomes:

By the end of the session, the learner will be able to:
• Discuss the legal and ethical responsibilities of managing a catastrophic bleed.
• Discuss the changes to existing guidelines for catastrophic external bleeding.
• Define the term catastrophic bleeding.
• List the types of catastrophic bleeding.
• Define the term tourniquet.
• List the types of tourniquet for controlling catastrophic bleeding
• Discuss and demonstrate the appropriate control measures and tourniquet use.
• List the risks associated with incorrect use of a tourniquet.
• Explain the importance of patient aftercare and appropriate recording.
