Course overview:

This course has been designed and developed for all care workers or individuals who, as a key part of their role, work with people who receive care, treatment and support. This course will enable learners to understand the key issues relating to infection control and the key principles that should be adopted to prevent the spread of infection.

Course learning outcomes:

By the end of the day the learner should be able to:
• Define the term Infection Control
• List the content that should be included in an Infection control policy
• Differentiate between Infection, Infestation, Virus and Disease
• Describe the chain of infection
• Explain the difference between Pathogenic and Non-Pathogenic bacteria
• Describe the term Immunization
• List standard Infection control procedures
• Discuss and demonstrate effective hand washing
• Discuss PPE and when they should be used
• Describe how to handle specimens
• Describe how to deal with a bodily fluid spillage
• Explain how to manage sharps related litter.
